Shirley M. Duval

Shirley M. Duval, 92, of Burlington, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Birchwood Terrace Rehab & Healthcare.
She was born in Burlington, VT, on August 19, 1933, the daughter of Joseph and Lena (Bedard) Reska, Sr. Shirley graduated from Burlington High School in 1952. On April 18, 1953, she married her husband, Thomas Duval, Sr. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Together they raised their five children and shared 58 happy years together.
Shirley worked for 18 years as a unit secretary on the Baird 4 medical floor at UVM Medical Center. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the VFW Howard Plant Post #782. She enjoyed watching various sports, bus trips to the Casino, and time spent with her friends at the Elks Club Bingo.
She is survived by her children, Gary Duval (wife, Debbie Salerno), Stephen Duval, Brian Duval, Sr. (wife, Shelly), and Penny Campanelli; daughter-in-law, Randi Duval; ten grandchildren, Tom III, Matt, Chad, Jim, Danielle, Heather, Todd, Nicole, Brandie, and Brian, Jr.; and many great-grandchildren.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Duval, Sr., who passed away on October 6, 2011; parents, Joseph Reska, Sr. and Lena Zeno; stepfather, Howard Zeno; son, Thomas Duval, Jr.; grandson, Stephen Lafountain Duval II; granddaughter, Britnee Anne Duval; sisters, Sophie Reska King, Barbara Chaloux, Jackie Brown, and Beverly Duval; and brother, Joseph Reska, Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff at Birchwood Terrace for their wonderful care over the last two years.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 11 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, 455 North Avenue, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Shirley's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 237 East Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401.
