Loretta M. Duval
"Granny"
1940-2025
Loretta Margaret Duval, age 85, passed away on October 22, 2025, in Bay City, Michigan. She was born on October 8, 1940, in Bay City to the late Junior and Martha "Fe" (Proulx) Arnold.
On September 3, 1960, she married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" J. Duval, at Visitation Catholic Church. Loretta loved being "Granny"-not just to her own grandchildren, but to every child she met. She had a special fondness for little ones and opened her heart and home to all.
She spent countless hours sewing, crocheting, and knitting, using her creative talents to make dresses, afghans, hats, mittens, scarves, and more-always giving them to anyone who came through her door. From the time her kids were young, Loretta's house was the hangout spot for family and friends alike.
Granny was also a wonderful baker and cook, known especially for her famous no-bake cookies that her grandchildren always looked forward to. Over the years, Loretta and Chuck loved traveling across the country-by car and motorcycle-where she proudly held the title of "passenger princess" on every ride.
Loretta is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Charles Duval; her children: Charles "Chuck" (Cheri) Duval, Daniel Duval, Patrick (Rebeca) Duval, Mark Duval, and son-in-law John Gelisse; her seven beloved grandchildren: Randi Gelisse, Chelsea (Zachery) VanderGraaff, Chad (Rachel) Duval, Patrick (Rachel) Duval, Charli (Adam) McCue, Joseph Duval, and Mark Duval II; and great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Levi, Jake, and Deacon. She is also survived by her siblings: Mike Arnold, Patricia Laskey, Barbara (James) Stachowski, and David (Peggy) Arnold, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Sandra Lee Gelisse; daughter-in-law Meredith Duval; and three of her siblings. Loretta cherished her family deeply and will be remembered for her giving heart and unwavering love.
Honoring Loretta's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Those who wish to share condolences or memories may do so online at www.squiresfuneralhomes.com.
