Nancy Rita Gielda
Bay City, Michigan
Nancy Rita Gielda, a devoted educator and beloved member of the Bay City community, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on February 12, 1951, Nancy spent her entire life in Bay City, where she touched countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to helping others learn and grow.
Nancy earned her bachelor's degree in education with a specialization in mathematics from Western Michigan University. Her teaching career began at St. James Elementary School, continued at Holy Rosary Academy, and culminated in many impactful years at St. Michael's within the Saginaw Diocese. After retiring from classroom teaching, Nancy extended her passion for education to Michigan Works, where she helped individuals improve their academic and career prospects. Eventually, she found her professional home at Delta College, where she was a respected member of the mathematics department. Even after retirement, Nancy remained committed to lifelong learning and mentorship.
The eldest of four children born to Arthur and Rita (Sobczak) Gielda, Nancy is survived by her siblings: James Arthur (Yolanda) Gielda and their children Erica Esckilsen (Joe Norman), Amanda (Ricky) Pudvan, and Justin (Jasmine) Gielda, Peggy Ann Martin and her children Grace and Alex Martin, Andrew George (Julie) Gielda and their children Claudia (Jacob) Barber and Clairissa (Zachary) Eichman. She also leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends-each of whom she embraced with warmth and affection. To many, she was simply "Aunt Nancy," a title she wore with pride and love. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Edward Martin.
Nancy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness. She found joy in simple pleasures-reading, family gatherings, casino outings with her sister Peggy, and cheering on her loved ones at sporting events. Her presence was a source of comfort and encouragement to all who knew her.
In honor of Nancy's lifelong compassion, the family invites donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-a cause close to her heart since childhood-or encourages volunteering at a local rescue mission in her memory.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Nancy will be laid to rest at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Final arrangements were entrusted to Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Ave., Bay City, MI 48708. Online condolences may be shared on Nancy's Tribute Wall at ambrosefuneralchapel.com
