Shirley Ann Haverstock Eagles-Salmon, 88, of Samaritan Summit Village, passed away October 2, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by family.

Shirley was born November 23, 1936, in Massena, NY, daughter of Charles Able and Thelma Irene (Elger) Haverstock. She graduated from Massena High School in 1956, Crouse Irving School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY in 1959, and attended Syracuse University for a few courses.

As an RN, she worked at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse, New York, Nyack Hospital in Nyack, New York, Massena Hospital in Massena, New York, and Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, New York.

She worked for Dr. Lawrence Withington and Dr. Fred Taylor, both in Watertown, New York. She retired from Jefferson County Public Health Services in 1999, as a visiting nurse.

She was co-owner with her husband, Arthur, of Watertown Glass and Hardware for 16 years. Shirley established a gift shop at Watertown Glass and Hardware called the "Eagles Nest".

She married Arthur J Eagles on November 11, 1961, in Massena, New York at Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Eagles, a Funeral Director and co-owner of Watertown Glass and Hardware, died December 10, 1989.

Shirley enjoyed music, playing the piano, reading, interior decorating, gardening, traveling, crafts, entertaining, and the cottage at Lake Ozonia, New York. Most of all she enjoyed her family and anytime she was with them.

She married Peter L Salmon on November 7, 2003, at Holy Family Church by Rev. Steven Murray and Rev. Dr. Fred Garry. Shirley was a member and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Church, Watertown, New York. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Home Bureau, DAR, Samaritan Loyal, Crouse Alumni, a volunteer at Samaritan Hospital, Family Y, Samaritan Auxiliary, volunteer at the Urban Mission, Paul Harris Fellow, Relay for Life, and Cosmopolitan Dance Club.

Surviving are, her husband Peter Salmon, a son and his wife, James and Janet Eagles, Ellicott City, MD, a daughter, Lisa Balough, Danville, PA, six grandchildren, Mark Eagles, Nick Eagles and his wife Kara MacKenzie, Amanda Balough, Sarah Balough, Ben Balough and Rebecca Balough, a sister, Sheila Rivers, Morrisonville, NY, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allan and Kathleen Eagles, Sr., Saint Regis Falls, NY, a sister-in-law Jean Haverstock, Carthage, NY, four step children, Suzanne and David Fabiano, Troy, NY, Deborah and Alec Drummond, Pittsford, NY, Christy Kinne Chapman and Keith Chapman, Stilwell, KS, Pete Jr. and Marylou Salmon, Wake Forest, NC, nine step grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, step nieces and step nephews. A brother, Laban Haverstock died before her.

The family would like to express gratitude to the entire devoted team at Samaritan Summit Village 3rd floor who have cared for her for over 3 years, and to the excellent and compassionate medical and surgical team at Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025 at the D. L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Holy Family Church. Followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery.
