Shirley Ann Kaufman Eggiman

June 30, 1928 - August 2, 2025 (97 years)

Born in Fairbury, IL, to Jacob Samuel and Clara Eva (Bach) Kaufman, Shirley moved to Central Howell (Silverton), Oregon, as an infant and spent her growing-up years there. She was the third of five children. She attended Central Howell School and graduated from Silverton High School in 1945. After high school, she attended Good Samaritan School of Nursing, graduating in 1948. In August 1950, she married William C. Eggiman, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage shortly before his death in December 2020. She loved being a nurse and worked in various capacities during her career. For many years, she worked with Drs. Merrill Mathiesen, Max Miracle, and James Macmillan at their office on SE 50th and Hawthorne. She finished her career working at Northwest Orthopaedic Associates with Dr. E. Robert Wells.

Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mother-canning fruits and vegetables, trying new recipes, sewing clothing, and hosting dinners for family and friends. She and Bill were charter members at Glisan Street Baptist Church in NE Portland. She served in many capacities at church, but perhaps her favorite ministry was as a third-grade Sunday School teacher. Later in life, she also attended Mill Park Baptist and Grace Community churches. She and Bill were active members of Gideons International for many years. She kept small Gideon New Testaments nearby and offered them freely.

She is survived by her children Mary Lee (Don) Nissen of Boring, Mark (Cynthia) Eggiman of Tualatin, and Barbara (Tim) Doten of Independence, MN. Her six grandchildren are Bruce D. Nissen, Andrew W. Nissen, Katie J. (Neil) Vasser, Carl H. (Amy) Doten, Keith M. (Christine) Doten, and Matthew W. Eggiman. She also was blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Her grands and great-grands enjoyed having her read to them and knew that she was always "good for a cookie." She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as her Bach and Kaufman cousins.

A service will be held on Monday, September 15, at 2 p.m., at Grace Community Church in Gresham. Memorial gifts may be designated to the Gideons International, Bethel University, St. Paul, MN, or a ministry of your choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care given her in her final days by the staff of Powell Valley Assisted Living, where she resided for over five years. The help of Heart to Heart Hospice was also a gift to us at this time.
