Shirley Ann Gay, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 79. Born on December 20, 1945, in DeWitt, Arkansas, Shirley's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family and friends.
Shirley's journey began as the cherished daughter of Oliver and Mildred Clem, who preceded her, and she grew up with a sister, June Holt, who also preceded her in death. Her life was enriched by her marriage to her loving husband, Kenneth L. Gay, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering partnership.
A dedicated homemaker, Shirley created a home that was a sanctuary of comfort and joy for all who entered. Her nurturing spirit was not only felt by her family but also by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a woman of many virtues, with a heart that knew no bounds when it came to caring for her loved ones.
Shirley's legacy is carried on by her devoted son, Scott (Amber Hale) Gay of Mishawaka, and her son Garland Adams. She was preceded in death by her son Tracy Adams, leaving a space in her heart that she carried with grace. Her grandchildren, Levi, Phillip, Stephanie, Tony, and Gary, Jr., as well as her great-grandchildren, Cameron, LeLe, and Ashton, will forever cherish the wisdom and love she imparted. Shirley was preceded in death by her granddaughter, LeeAnn, whose memory remained a tender part of her life.
Her extended family, including her cousin Rick (Laurel) Holt and cousin Lynn (Trent) Reamer, will remember Shirley for her kindness, her laughter, and the countless ways she made their lives brighter.
As we bid farewell to Shirley Ann Gay, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously given. Her spirit, characterized by compassion and resilience, will continue to inspire those who knew her. Shirley's memory will be a guiding light to her family, a reminder of the love and strength that binds them together.
In her passing, Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, and a family united in their admiration for her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of being part of her story.
