Shirley Gillaspie, 88, of Owensboro passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, at The Waters of Rockport. The Daviess County native was born October 28, 1936, as one of six children to the late Hezzie Lee Allison and Mary “Virgil” O’Bryan Allison. Shirley was employed as a Nurses Aide at OHRH working in Labor and Delivery and Surgery before retiring in 1989. She was a devoted member of New Panther Creek Baptist Church. Shirley was a wonderful grandmother who helped raise and entertain many of her grandchildren and babysat them all.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gillaspie in 2014; son, Randal Lee Malone in 2024; granddaughter, Sherri Guffy; stepson, Chuck Gillaspie; and all of her siblings.
Survivors include her three children, James Johnson of Utica, Don Johnson (Janice) of Reo, IN, and Allison Guffy of Whitesville; stepson, Roger Gillaspie; six grandchildren, Don Johnson III (Rachel), Scott Guffy (Ashley), Cory Johnson, Grant Johnson, Samuel Guffy, and Abigail Guffy; Randal Malone’s partner, Michael Schwibs; five great grandchildren; special great niece, Nicki Easler and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be 12:00 pm Friday, September 5 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Boulware Mission, 609 Wing Ave. Owensboro, KY 42303.
