Shirley Glenn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Covington Funeral Home on Dec. 16, 2025.
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, Shirley Patrick Glenn left his world with her devoted husband of 64 years, Darrell Ralph Glenn, by her side. Born on December 1, 1942, Shirley lived a life full of love.
The oldest of six children, Shirley was the daughter of H. M. "Pat" Patrick and Thelma Stewart Patrick. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jo Morgan and her brother Pete Patrick. She leaves behind siblings Mary Lynn Isome, Hershel (Sherry) Patrick and Charlie (Wanda) Patrick, who will forever cherish her memory.
Shirley's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her two sons, Brad (Tricia) Glenn of Whigham, GA and Jeff (Tabitha) Glenn of Eads, TN. Her love extended to five grandchildren – Sara Kate (Nick) Farley of Munford, Maddie (Matt) Folds of Donalsonville, GA, Tel Glenn of Tiptonville, TN, Justin (Lindsey) McKee of Camilla, GA and Jennifer (T.J.) Luke of Tifton, GA – as well as three great grandchildren, Kinsey McKee, Maci McKee and Charlotte Luke, all of Georgia.
To her family and friends, Shirley was simply "Grams" – a name she wore proudly because caring for others was second nature to her. She had a gift for making people feel loved and special. Grams adored watching birds (though cats were never her favorite!) and could identify a bird by its very first chirp – especially her cherished cardinal. She loved her flowers, cutting the grass and the backyard sanctuary she and Darrell created for the birds and hummingbirds they enjoyed together sitting on the back porch. Her passion for reading the newspaper turned into a sweet tradition – sending out "newsletters" filled with clippings and handwritten post it notes to keep loved ones informed.
Grams also had a few preferred things that always brought her joy – cheering on her beloved Kansas City Chiefs and listening to the music of George Strait and Diamond Rio, whom she saw in concert many, many times. And if you were lucky, you might have received one of her homemade decorative cakes that she used to bake to celebrate special events for people that called on her talents.
Grams worked for Jamieson Insurance early in her career, where her friendly nature and strong work ethic left a legacy. However, the proudest role of her career was being a farmer's wife, working hard alongside Darrell – hauling soybeans and tromping cotton trailers – a life she loved and embraced with grit and grace. Later, she spent time behind the wheel as a school bus driver for Tipton Rosemark Academy, caring for the children she transported each day.
Faith was central to Grams' life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Covington for more than 60 years, where she served in many roles, from helping with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 19 at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Friday, December 19 at the Covington Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the United Service Organizations (USO) at uso.org and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and stjude.org in Shirley Glenn's memory.
Grams will be deeply missed yet forever remembered and celebrated by all who knew and loved her.
