Shirley G. (Stratton) Hemme, age 95, of Erie passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at LECOM at Elmwood Gardens. She was born January 16, 1930 in Oil City, PA the daughter of the late John and Virginia (Flick) Stratton. She was a cherished member of St. Peter Cathedral parish.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vern W. Hemme who died in 2009. As well as a few very close friends, Sr. Stanislaus Keck (a second mother), Sr. Gertrude Marie Peterson, Monsignor James Peterson, and Bishop Lawrence Brandt.
She is survived by beloved friends, Mary and Don Chludzinski.
Shirley embraced her Catholic faith at the age of 18 when she was baptized by Fr. Fleckenstein. In 1950, she entered the Sisters of St. Benedict as a postulant. Due to health issues, she was not able to fulfill her calling. She spent the remainder of her life sharing her unwavering faith always praying for those near.
She enjoyed singing and was a member of the St. Peter’s Cathedral choir. She also was a Eucharistic Minister. Shirley was an avid reader of canonical teachings and watching EWTN was a favorite pastime.
A special thanks to the caregivers at Elmwood Gardens who made Shirley a part of their family.

Friends are invited to call Monday, July 21, 2025 in St. Peter Cathedral, 230 W.10th St. from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at which time a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
