Shirley Louise Jones Howard, age 96, of Homets Ferry, PA passed away Sunday evening, April 13, 2025 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Shirley was born on April 27, 1928 in Warren Center, PA the daughter of the late Edwin R. and Leola Rockefeller Jones. She was a graduate of the LeRaysville High School with the class of 1946.

She married James Taylor Howard on April 24, 1948 and they owned and operated the High Springs Farm in Homets Ferry. She took great pride in raising her family on the farm and supporting other local dairy farmers.

Shirley was a member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Lime Hill Grange and the Camptown Civic Club. She was proud of her basketball career and playing the violin in high school and bowling in leagues in her adulthood. Shirley was a skilled artist, particularly water colors. She enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and often reminisced when she would track the aircraft that would fly over during World War II. For nearly 10 years when she was in her 70's she would care for the elderly. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her children, James Howard Jr. of Homets Ferry, PA Edwin Howard and his, wife, Gale of Breesport, NY, Kay Way and her husband, Ruby, of Lime Hill, PA, Frederick Howard and his wife, Karen, of Carson City, NV, Kenneth Howard and his wife, Julie, Summerfield, FL; grandchildren, James Howard III (Erica), Cheryl McHone, Jenny Ferris (Jerad), Kevin Howard, Alissa Quick (Matt), Scott Bulizak (Nicky), Tyler Howard (Barbara), John Guttin (Wendy), Andrew Guttin, Tara Gregg (Wesley), Kara Jarrett (Paul), Kristen Howard, Daniel Howard (Colleen), Keith Howard (Chelsea), Claire Roof (Dakota); her great grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke Howard, Hunter and Avalynne McHone, Blake, Evan and Kaylin Ferris, Kaitlyn and Ryan Quick, Madalyn and Bellamy Bulizak, Aiden Smith, Miya Howard and Tyler Howard, Jr., Landon Guttin, Elliot, Easton and Dani Gregg, Ava and Jackson Jarrett, Eli, Evelina, and Abigail Howard, Lukas and Liam Howard; her sister/brothers-in-law, Lucy Lockwood, William Howard, and Ambrose Brennan, Jr.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard, her son-in-law, John Guttin; her sisters, Vivian Edsell and Joyce Fields; and her brothers/sister-in-law, John Howard, Jr., Theresa Brennan and Charles Howard.

A Service to Witness to the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 4:00 PM from the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bruce Jordan of the church officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will take place at a later date at the Homet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Shirley's name to the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, PO Box 25, Wyalusing, PA 18853 or to the Homet Cemetery, c/o Dolores Cairl 686 River View Road, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
