Shirley Ann Geter Huddleston, age 89, of Roopville, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born on August 12, 1936, in Heard County, Shirley was the daughter of John Cleve and Arrie Lee Geter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Garvie Lee Geter and Ward Preston Geter.
Shirley was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Lewis Huddleston, with whom she shared 70 beautiful years of marriage. The two were married the day after her 18th birthday and spent a lifetime building a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their legacy lives on in their son, Mike Huddleston; daughter & son-in-law, Angie & Jason Cantrell; their grandchildren, Austin & Lari Clark and Anderson & Summer Bradley; and their great-grandchildren, Jack, Hank, and Ben Clark, and Briggs Bradley.
Shirley spent much of her professional life in the banking industry in Carrollton. She joined The Peoples Bank in 1965 and held numerous roles throughout her career, retiring as the Banking Center Manager at Nations Bank after 31 years of dedicated service. Known for her warm personality, Shirley found true joy in helping people and cultivating lasting relationships with her customers, especially in the days when banking was personal, and every visit included a friendly conversation.
After her workday at the bank, Shirley often joined Clarence at Huddleston's Grocery, the country store they operated in Stoney Point. Together, they served and connected with their community in meaningful ways, touching countless lives.
A woman whose life reflected service, Shirley was a proud charter member of the Carroll County Sertoma Club, faithfully serving in many officer roles and embodying its mission of Service to Mankind. She was also a longtime and devoted member of Sardis Baptist Church, where her faith continued to shape her life and influence those around her.
Shirley was a deeply loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her family will forever cherish her sweet spirit and the simple joys she brought into their lives-the blessing she prayed before every meal, the coconut cakes, pound cakes, and vegetable soup made with love, and the conversations and laughter shared around her kitchen table. They will remember the hymns sung around the piano, the beauty she poured into her yard and flower beds, and the hugs, kisses, and "I love you's" that warmly closed every visit. Some of her happiest moments were spent in the presence of her husband and her family, the ones who brought her the deepest joy.
While we grieve her loss, we thank God for the blessing of being Shirley Huddleston's family. She lived a life anchored in faith and devotion to those she loved, and her legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Mrs. Shirley's life on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM from Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Darnell Teal and Rev. Kevin Geter officiating. Music will be rendered by Shirley's daughter, Angie Cantrell, and granddaughter, Lari Clark. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with Rev. Phillip Swafford officiating. Ray Mashburn, Don Fletcher, Ricky Huddleston, Kenneth Huddleston, Scott Cummings, Dwain Geter, and Andy Ethridge will serve as pallbearers. The Bank Ladies will be seated as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Ann Iler and the Iler House for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Shirley.
