Shirley Kibodeaux Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory - Broussard on Dec. 13, 2025.
Shirley Moody Kibodeaux born on October 21, 1948, passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 77.
Shirley was born in Orange Texas and later moved to Louisiana where she spent her childhood in Edgerly and various places throughout Western Calcasieu Parish. As one of eleven children born to the late Preston and Ferbie Mae Moody, her childhood home was always lively, loud, and full of love. She attended Vinton High School and, as an adult, devoted many years to maintaining Our Lady School in Sulphur as a custodian. She also worked as a security guard with AAA Construction, picked crab meat for Broussard Seafood Market, and generously volunteered her time at Parkview Baptist Church in Sulphur.
In addition to her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Russell Paul Moody and Preston J. Moody, and her sisters, Marie Louise Courville and Jeanette Duhon.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia East of Cade, LA, George Kibodeaux of Hackberry, LA. Wesley Kibodeaux of Scott, LA, and Amy Statum of Starks, LA; her siblings, Roland Moody of Hackberry, LA, Linda Doucet of Sulphur, LA, Betty Coleman of Iowa, LA, Judy Davis of DeQuincy, LA, Debbie Kidwell of Ocala, FL, and Gary Moody of Vinton, LA; along with sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of laughter. Forever young at heart, she always made room for jokes, playful mischief, and her trademark silliness. There was never a dull moment with her, she was known for her blunt honesty, her quick wit, and her sass that stayed with her right up to the end. She adored French music and never missed a chance to dance, but what she loved most was being surrounded by her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, and her kitchen was often the heartbeat of the home-there was always something on the stove and a fresh pot of coffee ready for anyone who walked through the door.
In the spirit of gathering with those she loved she also enjoyed playing cards. She often played Boray (Bourre) for quarters, with her friends or during family get-togethers and even cherished one last well-played game on Thanksgiving Day-where she let her son win, just one more time.
When she wasn't hosting or attending a gathering, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures: a slow ride down the backroads, a quiet day of fishing, crocheting something for someone she loved, or a fun night of bingo would bring her joy. She will be remembered in all the little things-whenever we hear her favorite French songs, crack a silly joke, shuffle a deck of cards, or share a good meal and although her seat may no longer be filled, she will forever hold her special place in our hearts.
