Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations - ChappellShirley Louise Leopold, 97, of Chappell, Nebraska died August 22, 2025 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska. She was born November 16, 1927, in Fort Collins, Colorado to Albert and Lillian Dean.
On August 11, 1946, she was married to Robert Blair Leopold in Loveland, Colorado. The couple lived in Boulder, Colorado where Robert received his degree in Pharmacy. They moved to Lexington, Nebraska where Shirley was busy in the church and with the children.
In 1960, Bob and Shirley moved to Chappell, Nebraska and purchased the Rexall Pharmacy and drugstore which later became the Chappell Pharmacy. Shirley worked with Bob in the drugstore, enjoyed being a wife and mother and was active in the Chappell Assembly of God church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as President of the Women’s Ministries.
In 1983, she opened her own Gift Shop, Chappell Gift and Gallery. She loved offering beautiful gifts and home decor and serving coffee and sweets to her customers. After she closed her store, she continued her gift of hospitality in her home. So many friends and family have experienced sitting around their kitchen table drinking coffee, laughing, talking, sometimes crying and often times praying.
Family was so important to Mom and Dad. We knew we were always welcome and would always hear the familiar question, “Is there anything you need?” We always knew how much we were loved.
Mom always loved music. From her days in the Triple Trio at Loveland High School to a few days before her death. She could sing all the words of any hymn and some popular song from her days in the Triple Trip and always in tune.
She is survived by a daughter Katherine Irene Schuler and husband Jack of Colorado Springs,
Two sons, Douglas Dean Leopold of Oshkosh, Nebraska and Robert Kelly Leopold and wife AeCha of Valley, Nebraska, 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, 2 sisters, Dorothy and Thelma, 5 brothers, Donald, Thomas, Robert, Charles and Richard, a daughter-in-law Nancy and a great granddaughter, Kaylie Rose Silzell.
