Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. July 29, 2024, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Shirley passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley G. (Brown) Luetgers was born on December 7, 1925, in Fairmont, MN, the daughter of Keith M. and Elsie C. (Lindstrom) Brown. She attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School. Following her graduation, Shirley enrolled at the University of Minnesota where she studied for 3 years.
During her time at the University of Minnesota, Shirley met Theodore "Ted" L. Luetgers. Shirley saw Ted off as he went to serve in the army during World War II as a medic but upon his return, the couple picked up their relationship where it left off and on December 28, 1947, the couple was married at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont. For their honeymoon, Shirley and Ted decided to skip the warm sands of the beach for an epic ice fishing honeymoon near Cook, MN. Shirley and Ted made their home near Fairmont, MN, and were blessed with three children, Curt, Eric and Joy.
When presented with the opportunity to help facilitate the start of Timberlake Apple Orchard by helping their son, Eric, Shirley and Ted unequivocally said yes! Shirley loved the opportunity to socialize with customers and at the sound of the bell, would hustle to get to her golf cart and across the road to greet those visiting.
Shirley was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ where she served in many different capacities. When her children were younger, she took a vested interest in their activities and helped as an adult leader for Silver Lake 4-H Club. Shirley was passionate about horses and her love of them led her to enjoy her membership of the Fairmont Saddle Club and Whips -N-Wheels. As a young mother, Shirley joined the sewing club where she met monthly with other members and continued to do so even as her health declined. She was also a member of the Merry-Maker neighborhood club and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. In her spare time, you could find Shirley enjoyed the quiet as she worked away in her garden.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Curt Luetgers and his wife, Terri of Fairmont, MN, and Joy Omohundro and her husband, Ralph of Woodbury, MN; daughter-in-law, Susan Luetgers of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Travis Luetgers (Becky Kelley), Krista Laidig and her husband, Christopher, Kristjon Luetgers and his wife, Jenna, Justin Luetgers and his wife, Ashley, Jason Omohundro and his wife, Amber, and Erin Wunderlich and her husband, Mark; great grandchildren, Isaac Laidig, Ayden Luetgers, Illyana Kelley, Myra Laidig, Everett Omohundro, Calvin Wunderlich, Raelynn Wunderlich, Brayden Luetgers, Micha Luetgers, and Lia Liou; as well as many other family members and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Elsie Brown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Adeline Luetgers; husband, Theodore Luetgers; son, Eric Luetgers; and two brothers, Keith Bill Brown and Kenneth Brown.
