Shirley Metiva Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home - Standish Chapel on Nov. 25, 2024.
Shirley Ann Metiva, R.N.
Standish, Michigan
Shirley Ann Metiva passed away at her sister's home with her family by her side on November 23, 2024, at the age of 94. Shirley was born in Omer, Michigan on September 17, 1930, to the late Linus and Thressa (Nowak) Beaudion.
Surviving is her sister Mary Lou Hartman, nephews Tim and Karen (Grauherr) Hartman and Todd Hartman, great-nephew Travis (Cassandra Roehm) Hartman and their daughter Natalie, great-niece Allison Hartman, and the entire Metiva family.
She had a happy and busy childhood on an 80-acre farm with her parents and sister. She started working at a doctor's office while in high school and graduated from Standish High School in 1949. She married Air Force Lieutenant Daniel Metiva on August 19, 1950. His plane went down in North Korea in 1952 and he has never been found.
Shirley entered St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Saginaw in 1953 and graduated in 1956. She went to work in Standish for a doctor's office for a few years and then returned to Saginaw to work for a doctor and his wife, who were friends of hers. She also worked at the Saginaw VA hospital for 7½ years. She left the VA Hospital to care for her parents who fought cancer for several years.
Following that very sad time, Shirley had a joyous and crazy time taking care of Travis and Allison while their parents worked. She also had many adventures with Kiley Cline and Melissa Grauherr. Shirley really appreciated all the food that her family, as well as Marlene, Scott, Paulette, Skye and others brought to her as she aged, as she never liked to cook.
She was a member of the Resurrection of the Lord Parish and worked in their thrift shop periodically from the time it was started in an old house on US-23 and continued when it moved to the Resurrection Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Resurrection of the Lord Food Pantry or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday November 27,2024 at 11:00 am from the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner presiding with burial in St. Edward's Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home, Standish Chapel on Tuesday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm and at the church from 10:00 am until time of Mass.
