Joseph "Joe" A. Metiva, aged 40, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Covenant Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan. Born on November 14, 1984, in Saginaw, Joe was a devoted family man and an avid lover of life. He is survived by the love of his life, Miriam Tawil, and their children: Morgan Metiva, Wyatt Metiva (Karissa Hill, significant other) Hannah Metiva (Marcos Betancourt, significant other) and Chase Jaenicke. Joe cherished his role as a grandfather to Oliver.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army, completing two tours of duty in Iraq as part of the esteemed 1st Cavalry Division. His military service was a source of great pride, exemplifying his commitment to his country and dedication to the values he held dear.
In addition to his military achievements, Joe was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He found joy in a variety of hobbies that brought him closer to both family and friends. Whether it was riding his motorcycle, working on cars, or enjoying the great outdoors, Joe embraced life with enthusiasm. He had a special affinity for nature, often spending time barbecuing with his trusty smoker and relishing moments spent outdoors. A passionate fan of sports, Joe especially loved watching the Michigan Panthers play football, connecting with friends and family over the highs and lows of each game.
Joe's playful spirit extended to his collection of Hot Wheels, a hobby that sparked joy and nostalgia. He was also known for his love of animals, particularly his dog, Max, who was a loyal companion throughout his life.
He is also survived by his parents, Jerry (Jeannie) Metiva and Connie Metiva (Ken Ciolek, Stepfather), as well as his brothers, Troy and Sam Ciolek, uncles Dean Schulz, Dennis Metiva (Brenda) and Aunt Cindy Griffore. Joe's legacy will be remembered by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Joe is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frederick “Smoky” (Norma) Schulz, Elwood (Marlene) Metiva, Uncles Daniel Schulz and Ronald Metiva.
A funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Gauthier with cremation to follow. Military Honors will be conducted on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. by the Bay County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the US Army. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to
