Shirley Carwile Morris, 93 of Dillwyn, VA died peacefully at her home on Sunday morning December 21, 2025 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Claude Andrew Morris Sr. She was born at home in Pamplin, VA on June 11, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Elliott Carwile and Gladys Gilliam Carwile. When Shirley married in 1952, she became a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and cared so deeply for all of her offspring. She was a homemaker for most of her life with a brief stint as Resident Manager at Gold Hill Village in Arvonia and also at Heritage Hall in Dillwyn. Shirley had a tender heart and a sweet smile and her mission in life was to support the underdog whether man or beast. Any person that needed an ear to listen found an avid listener at her house along with a meal. Any stray animal that found its way to her door was assured of a good meal and a lifelong home.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 65 years, Claude A. Morris Sr. and her youngest son, Timothy E. Morris. Shirley was survived by her three remaining children, Claude A. Morris, Jr. (Lucy), Shirley M. Baker (Steve), Michael E. Morris (Cindy) and also by Timothy’s widow Pam Morris. Shirley is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and her 3 beloved cats, Precious, Honey and Lollypop.
