Shirley (Hevener) Rexrode

Shirley Hevener Rexrode, 85, wife of the late Amos Rexrode went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2023.

Shirley was born January 30, 1938 to the late Elmer Richard and Lucy (Griffin) Hevener.

Shirley was a beautiful woman of God.  She enjoyed reading the Bible and other inspirational books.  Shirley was a member of the Methodist Church and, although unable to attend for some time, watched sermons on television and lived her faith in her community.  She was an intercessor, an encourager, a friend, and a true giver.  She was well known for her card and letter sending.  Shirley sent birthday cards, anniversary cards, get-well cards, sympathy cards, thinking of you cards or just a special occasion card or a letter with a newspaper clipping.  These were her ways of reaching out to others from her home.  She loved her son, her brothers and sisters, her nieces and nephews and her brothers and sisters in the Lord and was faithful to her God, her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Edwin Hevener and sister, Shelby Hevener Grant.

She is survived by her only son, Mark Rexrode of Staunton, who she was proud of and loved dearly; her brother and sister-in-law, Donnie Hevener and wife, Janet of McDowell; brother-in-law, Billy Grant of McDowell; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as her brothers and sisters in Christ.

The family will receive family members and friends during a period of visitation and Celebration of Life gathering 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell. 

A committal will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday the 22nd in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens, Staunton, Virginia for family and friends.                                                                                                                     

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Hevener, Billy Grant, Alan Grant, T. J. Grant, Shaun Grant, Derek Burns, Aaron Shank, as well as those in attendance.

In memory of Shirley the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
