Shirley Ann Hausfeld Ruhlman, 92, of Algonac (formerly New Baltimore), passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. Shirley, the youngest of 10 children, was born on September 13, 1932 to the late John and Mary Annette (Will) Hausfeld.
Shirley attended and graduated from St. James School in Ferndale. She also attended and graduated from the LPN nursing program at St. Clair County Community College. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Everett "Whitey" Ruhlman on January 23, 1952. Together they had 14 children. Shirley spent much of her life raising her brood. She was fun, funny, creative, thoughtful, kind and she never recoiled from hard work. She had a strong sense of adventure demonstrated when she and her sister, Marion, embarked on a road trip to Alaska in their 60s. Shirley looked for the good in everything and everyone. She was a devout Catholic all of her life and her faith was very important to her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, infant daughter, Joy, and son-in-law, Gary Orczykowski. She is survived by her children: Jeannie (Tim Boudreau), Jerry (Iris), Therese (Gary Orczykowski), Julie (Leif Wolf), Jeff (Patricia), John (Mary), Joe (Addie), Jay (Jackie), Jim (Stella), Janet (Harold Haslett), Jennifer (Jill Thomas), Jessica Konefke and Jacqueline (Tom Majer). She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren (2 on the way) and
3 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 1103 Washington, Algonac. Additional visitation will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Final resting place will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI
