Shirley Mae Sanders, 91, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Phenix City.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT Friday morning, May 3, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Randy Comer officiating.  A private interment for the family will be held Tuesday afternoon at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am EDT, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Phenix City. 
Mrs. Sanders was born October 15, 1932, in Phenix City, AL, daughter of the late Leon C. Chestnut and Ersel Mae Caldwell Chestnut.  She was a woman of great character who loved and was devoted to all her family, especially all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved encouraging all grandchildren in their sports activities and other events.  She was an Alabama Crimson Tide fan and enjoyed each football season.  She loved fellowship and people. She was a member of the River of Life Church in Phenix City.  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Maurice Douglas Sanders and a sister, Joyce Cotton
She is survived by two daughters, Sheril Sanders Stamp and husband Paul, and Lori Sanders Jackson and Husband Michael, all of Phenix City, AL; five grandchildren, Jason Stamp (Amy), Brandi Stamp Laney (Nathan), Reed Jackson (Amanda), Karli Jackson Beason (Joel), and Troy Jackson; ten great- grandchildren, Banks, Ellison, Brody, Sam, Jolie Kate, Jackson, Brooklyn, Avery, Austin, and Brynlee; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.  
The family would like to express a special gratitude to Melissa with Comfort Keepers along with her caregivers with Starlight Home Healthcare, Lynell Davis, Octavia, and Keke for the care and love shown to their mother.  Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to River of Life Church in Phenix City.
