Tuesday May 8 was a happy day in heaven! Heaven gained a magnificent angel, Shirley was reunited with her husband and love of her life Don, and countless family and friends welcomed her home! Shirley's final days were spent with the most wonderful and compassionate care at The Journey Home in Dewey, OK and as a resident at Green Country Independent Living.
Shirley was born on December 4, 1932 in Enfield, IL. She earned a BA in Education at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1954 and completed her Master of Science in Adult Education in 1960. She began her career in education in Steelville, IL teaching high school typing at the age of 20, continued on to teach at McLeansboro, IL for 5 years before resigning to marry her soul mate and love of her life Donald Seizinger. They were married at the Methodist Church in Enfield, IL. This began a cherished union that lasted over 60 years.
Together Shirley and Don began a family and in 1963 moved to Bartlesville, OK as Don accepted a job with the Bureau of Mines. Shirley was active in the American Association of University Women serving as Chapter President for two terms. Shirley was a stay-at-home mom while her two children Elaine and Karl were young. She returned to her love of education and taught business subjects at Tri-County Tech for over 20 years until she retired in 1995.
Shirley loved to serve others and volunteered with Don as a reading tutor at Ranch Heights Elementary, helping to feed the less fortunate at Mary Martha and Agape Ministries and in numerous other ways. Shirley was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Bartlesville. Shirley and Don loved to travel and together traveled to all 50 states and most of the Canadian Provinces. Shirley planned the trips and Don drove thousands of miles including an 8 week trip to Alaska camping in their minivan.
Shirley was a beloved mother and grandmother to 4 grandchildren. Shirley had a unique gift of being a wonderful listener and could share vast amounts of wisdom in just a few words.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Elaine (John) of Edmond, OK, son Karl of Tulsa, OK, grandchildren Kendall Harris, Jacob Seizinger, Andrew Harris, and Zachary Seizinger, her sister Mary Lou Perkins of Garland, TX and eight nieces and nephews.
She was reunited in heaven with her parents Vern and Paul Apple, in-laws Elmer and Gertrude Seizinger, sister June York, brother in-law Howard Seizinger, sister in-law Jean Klein and nephew, Paul Perkins.
