Shirley Mae Simmons, 90, of Cumberland, formerly of Westernport, died April 20, 2025, at Sterling Care at Frostburg Village.
Born September 11, 1934, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Edna (Shrout) Young.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Simmons; her in-laws, Henry and Naomi Simmons; son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Mark R. Smith; and siblings, Charles Young, Maxine Holland, and Phyllis Ware.
She was a graduate of Allegany High School.
Mrs. Simmons had worked in Food Service for the Allegany County Public schools. She then went on to work in retail sales for J.S. Raub Shoes and later the Bon-Ton.
She belonged to Central Assembly of God.
Shirley loved to cook and bake. She was known for having the prettiest and tastiest apple dumplings ever! She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed giving them names.
Survivors include her two daughters, Robin Ann Smith and Michele Rae Miller and husband Tim; sister, Margie Nixon; grandchildren, Leah Spink, Adam Miller, Andrew Smith, Alysa Lee, and Lauren Smith; and, great grandchildren, Luke, Landen, and Paislee Spink, Azairia, Noelani, and Sage Smith, and Adley and Dominic Miller.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Monday, April 28th from noon until 1 PM. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM, with Pastor Doug Seaman, officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
