Born June 11, 1934, the daughter of a farmer during the Great Depression in Chesterfield, SC. She has always worked hard, been a bit stubborn, had grit, yet a soft heart, a kind word always spoken, and a love of Jesus like few I know. She loved to toil with her hands, loved nature, adored her family, always dreamed of settling down and enjoying her family, having a home, and friends to share this life with. She received and found that dream. I was also a dream of her's as well. She told me so many times. I never questioned her love for me, we spent so much quality time together, traveled the US on road trips, and she prayed for me daily until she took her last breath (I know because she wrote and told me such).

She truly loved my grandfather Jim, they were together until his passing last November, 72 years together. Lived all over the world due to being the wife of a military man devoted to this country and the Air Force during the time of the Korean War and Vietnam. Oh the stories they could tell! Those stories I would do anything to hear once more. I would record them all and cry the entire time they were told. Just to have that feeling of togetherness again, the family pride, and the unconditional love we shared.

Shirley was a fervent prayer warrior, always wanted to listen, always speaking a kind or uplifting word with a scripture to add, and a wonderful friend. I have no doubt I know where she is today, and for that I'm grateful knowing she's with our Lord and Savior, Jesus. My Me-maw has been healed, the dementia is gone, the pain is no more. She is reunited with her love again.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 11:15 am, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 11:30 am at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg officiated by Dr. John Harrill. A private burial will be held at a later date.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Hunter Adams; father, Ben Tillman Adams; husband, Jim Calvin Stroud; sisters, Bernice T. Adams, Gennie Baker, and Dot Yates; and brothers, Clyde Ballard Adams, John D. Adams, Bernice Adams, and James Adams.

Survivors include son, Don (Jan) Stroud of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Beth (Daniel) Gillahan of Indian Trail, NC; and sisters, Annie Laura Lang of Chesterfield, SC and Carleen Stroud of Mount Pleasant, NC.

You will be forever missed.
I'll never forget your cute giggle when something was really funny.
Your spunk will never be forgotten.
I'll carry you with me forever, hoping to always make you proud.
Thank you for always loving me.
For all the prayers.
For all the special times that mean so much to me.
May we meet again one day and give me a big hug once more.
I love you Me-maw.
Tell Bo I said to take it easy.

O victory in Jesus
My Savior forever
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him
He plunged me to victory
Beneath the cleansing flood

I heard an old old story
How a Savior came from glory
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me
I heard about His groaning
Of His precious blood's atoning
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory

I heard about His healing
Of His cleansing pow'r rev aling
How He made the lam to walk again
And caused the blind to see
And then I cried dear Jesus
Come and heal my broken spirit
And somehow Jesus came and brought
To me the victory

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea
About the angels singing
And the old redemption story
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory
