It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley D. Thieman, Nee Schindler, who departed this life, December 8, 2025, at the age of 91. Shirley was a cherished mother, sister, and friend whose presence brought warmth, joy, and kindness to all who knew her. Born on March 25, 1934, in
St. Louis, MO, Shirley grew up in the village of Riverview with a passion for learning and family. Her father was a carpenter/inventor working for McDonald-Douglas Aircraft, and her mother was a homemaker. She attended grammar school till 1948 and attended St. Alphonsus de Ligouri High School. After her father died in 1949 the family moved to
Moberly, MO in 1951 where her mother worked for Montgomery Ward and Shirley worked at the Grand Theater while attending Moberly Junior College lower division graduating from High School 1952. She met her husband Frank Thieman, and they were wed on November 16, 1957. They moved to
Boonville, MO where they ran a greenhouse and adopted their first son in 1964 followed by the birth of their other three children in 1967, 1969, and1971. They then moved back to the Thieman family farm in
Moberly, MO in 1972 and opened Thieman's Greenhouse and Florist. Known for her generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering support, Shirley touched many lives as a florist with Thieman's Greenhouse, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and a past PTO President for Northeast R IV Cairo school supporting her children's education and activities. Shirley then attended Moberly Area Junior College's School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1994 and working for Moberly Regional Medical Center, Loma Linda, and Moberly Corrections Center before retiring.
Shirley is survived by her four children: Robert M. "Bob" Thieman, Frank A. "Tony" Thieman and his wife Diana L. Thieman, Margaret J. Neubauer and her husband Richard Neubauer, and Patrick C. Thieman; two grandchildren: Derek Neubauer and Drew Neubauer, her sister Sally Viehland, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will forever cherish the love and memories shared. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank H. Thieman (d. February 4, 2017), her Parents, Bert C. Schindler and Loraine F. Schindler, Nee Bach and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Saint Judes Hospital, an organization close to Shirley's heart.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, 3 - 5pm, at the Cater Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 11:00 am at the St. Pius X Catholic Church. A committal prayer and burial will take place at the St. Mary's Cemetery in
Moberly, MO with lunch to be served after the services at the St. Pius X Church undercroft.
