Shirley Rae Bolin Thompson, 93 years old, of Taylorsville, Utah.
Shirley arrived in style, on September 16, 1932, the 7th of 9 children, to Irvin Rich Bolin and Harriett Lucille Britton and passed from this earthly existence on September 26, 2025.
Shirley attended and graduated from West High School then married her high school sweetheart, Carl Thompson, on September 27, 1951. It wasn't long before Shirley and Carl started their young family with their firstborn, Dennis, being followed in quick succession with Jacque, Scott, and a few years later, Jeffery.
Shirley spent most of her early married years raising her young family and when the time was right eventually started working for RL Polk Company compiling City Directories throughout the state of Utah. Shirley was an intelligent, hardworking, ambitious individual and was soon promoted to the position of statewide director where she happily spent the rest of her working career.
Shirley and Carl had a passion for travel and family adventure. Whether with friends, siblings, children, or grandchildren they were happiest when they were exploring and conquering new places by land or by sea. They travelled throughout the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Ireland, the Oregon Coast, and of course Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii...
Shirley was a fun-loving mother whose house became known as the cool house on the block. Many youngsters claimed Shirley as their own mother even though they had no bloodline ties to her, only their passion for strawberry waffles with whipped cream in the morning, hanging out at the Thompson household during the day, or having a pre-dinner meal before going home to enjoy their own family dinner in the evenings. Shirley fed them all!!! Shirley and Carl's house became the central meeting point for friends and relatives alike on special occasion like Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. Everyone knew if you wanted to see friends and relatives on these occasions you needed to congregate at the Thompson residence.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Carl Thompson. She is survived by four children, Dennis (Tracy) Thompson, Jacque (Ned) Wilkinson, Scott (Debbie) Thompson, and Jeffery (Laurie) Thompson as well as 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Shirley will be greatly missed.
