Shirley Lucille Tams Thornock passed peacefully in her sleep early on August 6th, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born on February 12th, 1930, at home on Chester Street in Ogden, UT. She was the daughter of Wallace L. and Lucille F. Tams. She spent her youth mostly outdoors with her siblings, as she said, "learning the art of working" with mischief and fun mixed in. She graduated from Weber High School in 1948.

Shirley and George C. Thornock were married in the Logan LDS Temple on December 15th, 1948, after meeting earlier that year at Farr's Ice Cream, where she worked scooping ice cream. Together, they raised a family of four children: Georgine Hadley (Ken), Shirlene Pierce (Larry), George Thornock (Sandy), and Tami Mead (Doug).

After her children were in school, Shirley attended and graduated from Stephens-Henagar College, where she studied accounting. She worked for General Mills and then Hill Air Force Base, where she retired as a Non-Appropriated Funds Supervisor.

Shirley loved being outdoors and could often be found in her garden at home or picking fruit with family. After retiring, she enjoyed Jeep trips to Moab with family, ceramics, puzzles, card games, fishing, and watching westerns on TV. She was always happy to attend a play or musical and often went with her siblings. Shirley loved being with her family and the fun, chaotic traditions they enjoyed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, George; her daughter, Shirlene; her granddaughter, Shirley Anne Pierce; and her siblings, Helen Burdett (Fred), Vernon Tams (Ruth), and Louis Tams. She leaves behind her three living children, Georgine, George, and Tami; her brother, Kenneth Tams (Myra}; seventeen grandchildren; sixty-five great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren (with three more on the way). Her wonderfully large family will always remember the fun backyard dinners, her bouffant hairdo and false lashes, and the way she was always willing to work hard with and for her family.

Services will be held at Leavitt's Mortuary 836 36th Street, in Ogden on Saturday, August 16th, with a viewing at 10 AM followed by a graveside service at 11 AM.

Her children request that, in lieu of flowers, you please take your families out for ice cream, where Shirley would want you to enjoy spending time together with sticky fingers and smiles, sharing memories and stories.
