Shirley Mae Wilson, 88 years old, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025, after fighting a long battle with dementia.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 2 PM, in Fort Barnwell Baptist Church, 9335 NC 55, Dover, NC 28526. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, 2681 Hillcrest Road, Kinston, NC 28504. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Shirley was born in Craven County on January 2, 1937, to Neta Case Wilson and Odell Wilson. She grew up in a large family having two brothers and five sisters. She married the love of her life, a hometown boy named David "Jack" Wilson. They went on to have a large family themselves, two boys and three girls. Shirley was a homemaker, wife and mother; a job she dearly loved.
Surviving Shirley are two sisters, Carolyn Carlisle of Fort Barnwell, NC, and Margaret Moore and husband, Richard of Newport, NC; a son, David Wilson of Cookeville, TN; and three daughters, Vickie Ferguson of Portsmouth, VA, Sherry Spradling and husband, Mark of Cookeville, TN, and Debbie O'Neill and husband, David of Carrollton, VA; as well as six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews and their spouses; and a host of special friends.
