Sidney Allen Cannon, 80, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Mission Hospital McDowell.

He was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on November 1, 1944 to the late Eurie Cannon and Pauline Connor Cannon.

Sid was a faithful husband to his late wife of 54 years, Jennie Craig Cannon. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served for over thirty years. He was the Command Master Chief at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. Later in life, he was employed at Lowe’s where he made many lasting friendships. He was a talented woodworker in his spare time. Sid enjoyed doing acts of service for others whether he knew them or not. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lindal Davis (Drucilla) and Paul Cannon.

He is survived by two sons, Greg A. Cannon (Omi) and William L. Cannon (Stephanie); four grandchildren, Brittany Cannon, Kaitlyn Cannon (Ryan Brown), Zachary Cannon (Cari), and Maxwell Cannon; three great-grandchildren, Liam Barrett, Dallas Cannon, and Elizabeth Cannon; five siblings, Aaron Davis (Sue), Jim Cannon (Etta), Brenda “Shorty” Wells, Faye Stanley (Alan), and Brenda Robertson (Herman); and a special nephew, Chuck Craig (Diane).

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. (1400) in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
