Jackie Dean Turner, Jr., 61, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
He was born on October 10, 1963 in McDowell County. Jackie dedicated his life to the service of others, spending his career in law enforcement. Jackie started his journey as a driver license examiner and went on to serve as a deputy sheriff in McDowell County, working alongside his father, the late Sheriff Jackie D. Turner, Sr. and former Sheriff Dudley Greene. He later served as a detective and with specialized teams including the drug task force and DEA task force.
Jackie's personality was marked by a kindness that resonated with everyone around him. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Jackie had the unique ability to bring joy to those he encountered. He was humble and generous, always considering the well-being of others, especially during difficult times. His faith was a cornerstone in his life.
Beyond his professional contributions, Jackie cherished his family, which he regarded as his proudest accomplishment. A beloved son, father, and brother, his love for his family was profound and unwavering. Jackie had a passion for golf, fantasy football, and rock music, including bands such as The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, and TOOL, to name a few. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia O’Day Turner; three children, Lukas Turner, Elijah Turner, and Hope Turner; step-son, Robert Young; two sisters, Regina Turner Holland (Eugene) and Charity Turner Coates (Derek); and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Rep. Dudley Greene and Pastor Jerry McClain officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
