Sidney DeCell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service on Aug. 3, 2022.
Sidney (Sid) DeCell, 56, of South Burlington, VT crossed over peacefully surrounded by his family (wolf pack) on July 31st, 2022.
Sid was born on November 14th, 1965 to Alan and Jane DeCell in Homestead, FL. His father was in the Air Force so the family moved around frequently, ultimately returning to their home state of Vermont.
Sid started working at a local restaurant at the age of 14, and began his trucking career in his early 20's. His driving expertise was legendary. Sid then started his 23-year long career in the oil industry at Exxon in 1998 at the Burlington Terminal. In 2007, he joined Global Partners LP stepping into the role of Burlington Terminal Manager, in 2013 he was promoted to Rail Manager for the company. His strong work ethic, loyalty, and continued dedication made him an invaluable and respected member of the Global family. Under his leadership Global expanded its rail operations from New York and Vermont across the US and into Canada. Sid's positive attitude, attention to detail, and love of what he did will be sorely missed by all those at Global partners.
In 1987, Sid met Laura at the restaurant where they were both employed. The first time Sid saw Laura, he said to his friend John, "I'm going to marry her one day", and sure enough, he did. They fell in love almost instantly and were lifelong partners/soulmates. Sid embraced being a stepdad to Laura's son, Bill, and they went on to have three children, Samantha, Olivia and Bryor.
Sid was a Jeep-aholic, Coors-lovin', golf-obsessed, family man who was the rock and voice of reason for the whole family and many of his friends. Sid was an incredible man, fiercely loyal and loving. You always knew where you stood with him, no beating around the bush with Sid. He was always there to listen and give advice to anyone who asked, and sometimes even if you didn't ask (depending on what kind of car you're driving). He could pick out a scuffed rim or a ding on the side of a car from 100 yards away.
Sid's career was extremely important to him and he took his job very seriously. He was determined to provide everything for his family and make sure the kids always had a car to drive and vacations.
Sid was also a passionate mechanic who could be found in his garage during his time off, working on his jeep or any new cars he may have found.
Anyone who knew Sid, knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Sid was predeceased by his mother Jane, his father Alan and his daughter Samantha. He is survived by his Wolf Pack - Wife Laura, his children, Bill and his wife Amy and grandson William, Olivia and her partner Ethan, Bryor and his partner Maggie and his pets Pebbles and Pixie, who adored him.
Sid is also survived by his 5 siblings, Cherie and her children, Al and his son, Tim and his wife and children, Kim and his daughter, Angie and her son.
Celebration of Sid will be held at the Delta Hotel (1117 Williston Rd, South Burlington VT 05403) on Sunday the 7th, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
