Sidney Digby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davenport Funeral Home, Inc. - Walhalla/West Union from Nov. 13 to Nov. 14, 2025.
Sidney Lamar Digby, Jr., 65, of Mountain Rest, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home.

Born in Covington, GA, Mr. Digby was the son of Sandra Jane Watkins Hornick. He was a truck driver for Blossman Gas for many years.

Better known as Snake Man, Lamar possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of hundreds of species of snakes and kept several as pets throughout his life. He was always quick to come to the aid of many homeowners who were dealing with the unwanted intruders. He would catch and relocate them regardless of the risk associated with poisonous rattlesnakes, and copperheads.

Lamar survived two near death experiences in his life. One involved a bicycle collision with a car as a kid, and in the mid 90's, survived his house being demolished by a tornado while he was inside. These experiences helped mold him to be a kind, and quick-witted guy with a great sense of humor. Part of his missed calling in life was to be a stand-up comedian.

He never met a stranger and always had time to chat as he traveled thru his life. He loved racing, and hot rods, especially Camaros. His conversations, insight, and thoughts on a wide variety of subjects from politics to racing will be missed by many. Snake Man has gone home.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Digby is survived by his step-father: Louis Wayne Hornick; brother: Chris Digby (Jennifer) of Walhalla, SC; and sister: Teresa Stancil (Monty) of Central, SC.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Davenport Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oconee Humane Society, P.O. Box 966, West Union, SC 29696.

The family is at their respective homes.

Lamar was a very good friend. He came by lots of times to catch a snake. We gave him a key to our place on the mountain and he loved to go over and take a sandwich and just sit on the porch. Sometimes he said he´d take a nap. We will miss him !!
