Sidney Dean Mitchell, lovingly known as Dean, was born on June 11, 1958, in Gaston County, North Carolina. He passed away peacefully at his residence on August 31, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.
Dean was a proud member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne, embodying a spirit of service and commitment that he carried into every facet of his life. He held numerous roles throughout his career, most recently working at Covenant Village, where he was still actively contributing. He was also a plumber most of his life. A dedicated member of Restoring Hope Foursquare Church in Dallas. Dean found great joy in his faith and community.
As a husband of 45 years to his beloved wife, Cindy Pasour Mitchell, and as a father to his wonderful daughters, Lindsey Wooten and Sidney Clippard, Dean took immense pride in his role within his family. His heart swelled with joy as he watched his family grow, particularly his grandkids—Austin Mitchell, Blake Mitchell, Jett Wilkinson, JoAnna Wilkinson, C.W. Clippard, and Hadley Dean Clippard—who brought endless laughter and delight into his life. Dean cherished every moment spent in their company, engaging in adventures, sharing stories, and passing down the complexities of life, love, and, of course, baseball.
Dean's personality was a fusion of warmth, kindness, and humor. He was a wonderful loving pawpaw, father, and husband. Whether he was on the baseball field or enjoying a quiet moment with family, Dean had a unique way of making everyone feel valued and cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, his daughters, Lindsey Wooten (Jonathan) and Sidney Clippard (Chase) and his cherished grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother, Jerry Isaac Mitchell, Jr., and his sister, Susan Murphy (George), along with many wonderful nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Isaac Mitchell, Sr. and Karen Houser Mitchell, and his sister, Sharon Marliese Lowrimore.
