Fountain Hills – Sidney O'Coyne was called home to join his bride Bobbie on October 9, 2025. Sidney was born April 16, 1940 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to Charlie and May O'Coyne. He was the second of five children. His family moved to Arizona when he was seven years old and settled in Ajo in 1948. In 1959 he married his soul mate, Roberta (Bobbie) Watkins. Their 65 years of marriage was like a fairytale; one that family and friends strive to achieve. They had three children, Tom, Todd, and Tabbie.
Sidney worked for Phelps Dodge for 39 years. He started on the railroad crew and moved his way up to the Foreman of the Heavy-Duty Truck Shop in Ajo. In 1984, Phelps Dodge transferred Sidney to Morenci, AZ. In Morenci, he ran one of the largest Heavy-Duty Truck and Equipment shops in the United States. Sidney's work ethic was remarkable. He worked hard, became a leader, and mentored and trained many employees that would remain loyal friends to his last days. He retired in 1997 and was honored for never taking a single sick day during his entire 39-year career.
In 1998, Sidney and Bobbie moved into their house on the hill in York Valley overlooking the golf course. Sidney was heavily involved in the construction and landscape of their home making it one of the most beautiful in the valley. Sidney also volunteered his time at the Greenlee County Golf Course. He worked several hours a week performing maintenance on the grounds and equipment. One of his favorite activities was golfing with his friends and enjoying the 19th hole after the round.
In 2018, they moved to Mesa where they lived with their daughter Tabbie and her husband Vaughn. In 2023, due to Bobbie's health struggles, Sidney, Bobbie, and their dog Missy, moved to assisted living in Fountain Hills. One could say that Sidney passed on October 9, 2025, but joy left his life in December of 2024 when Bobbie passed.
Sidney is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie O'Coyne, and his parents Charlie & May O'Coyne. He is survived by his children: Tom O'Coyne (Nancy), Todd O'Coyne (Cristina), and Tabbie Bosch (Vaughn); brothers Doug and Nick O'Coyne, sisters Linda Morales and Roberta Damiano; Ten Grandchildren, Fifteen Great-Grandchildren, and Two Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Sidney will be remembered for so many things, but at the top of the list until his last days will be his storytelling, loyalty to his friends, and his love of family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
