John (Jas) Robert Sierzenski, age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away on August 8, 2025, at his home in Rockland Place Retirement Community.
He was born and raised in South Philadelphia on Greenwich St. and is the son of the late John J. and Loretta (Ujazdowska) Sierzenski. John attended St. Stanislaus School and Parish, Bishop Neumann HS, and he took classes at Drexel Institute of Technology and Pierce Business School. John left Drexel to enlist in the Army and served until his discharge in 1964. After returning home, John found temporary employment at the Stock Clearing Corporation of Philadelphia where he was a Clerk-Typist. He also worked at Continental Industries, Franklin Sugar Refinery and at the Naval Air Engineering Center where he was an Electronic Accounting Machine Operator. John eventually found his lifelong career with the US Postal Service on Market St. in Philadelphia. He was hired in Nov. 1966 where he was a Distribution Clerk for over 41 years until his retirement in July 2005.
John met the love of his life; his wife Patricia (Plunkett), and they married in Sept. 1984.They bought their first house on Tyson Ave. in Northeast Philly the following year. After John retired, the couple bought their retirement home at Paladin Club Condominiums and moved to Wilmington, DE to be closer to family. John and Pat spent their pre- and post-retirement years traveling extensively with family and friends. Throughout their lives they were involved in their church, their community, and they loved attending family functions, sporting events and Sunday dinners with Paul, Sandy, nephew David and the three Shelties that adored them. Having lived in Philadelphia most of his life, John was an avid Philly sports fan. When it came to sports, you could simply ask John for facts long before Google even existed!
John was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2022, his parents, John and Loretta and his brothers Raymond and Paul. John is survived by his four sisters-in-laws, Kathleen and Sandra Sierzenski, Margie and Johnie Plunkett, cousins Barbara Indiano, Barbara Klissczc, and Margie Taraciewicz and many nieces and nephews.
