New Iberia – A memorial gathering will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, for Simon “Pete” Thibodeaux, 88, who passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Camelot of Broussard.
A rosary, led by the Men's Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.
A native of St. Martinville and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Simon “Pete” Thibodeaux, Jr. was born on May 31, 1937, to the late Simon Thibodeaux, Sr. and Adez Laviolette Thibodeaux. He was a 1955 graduate of St. Martinville Senior High, and proudly served our country in the Army National Guard for six years.
Pete was a dynamic character. He devoted a significant part of his professional life to the insurance industry as a State Farm Agent, where he served many families with integrity and respect. He also committed several years to the United States Postal Service, and demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating D&B Appliances in Abbeville. His commitment to work was mirrored by his unwavering dedication to his community.
Pete was always happy and positive. He was a regular “depositor” at Cypress Bayou Casino, where his laughter echoed and his playful spirit shone. He had a knack for making friends wherever he went, enhanced by his love for card games, particularly Bourre' and Pokeno. Often the life of the party, his practical jokes and flirtatious nature endeared him to all, bringing smiles and warmth to every gathering. Pete's infectious energy was matched only by his deep love for music, creating an atmosphere of celebration wherever he ventured.
He is survived by his children, Simon “Si” Thibodeaux, III (Michelle) of New Iberia, Kim Mestayer (Tab) of Dry Creek, and Anissa Desormeaux of Broussard; grandchildren, Lance Mestayer, Jobb Mestayer, Hope M. Stanford, Drake Thibodeaux, Donovan Derouen, Jr., Faith Thibodeaux, and Dylan Desormeaux; great-grandchildren, Saige Mestayer, Jude Stanford, Landon Mestayer, Noah Stanford, Ava Thibodeaux, Brylon Derouen, Weston Thibodeaux, Millee Stanford and Jolee Stanford; and a brother, Andrus “Andy” Thibodeaux (Alice).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 58 years, Barbara Lee Romero Thibodeaux; grandson, Rivers Etienne Thibodeaux; and son-in-law, Rodney Desormeaux.
As we celebrate the life of Simon "Pete" Thibodeaux, Jr., we remember him as a beacon of joy and light. His laughter will echo in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
