We are saddened to announce the passing of Arthur J (Skip) Meinhold CAPT, USN (ret) on November 4, 2025.
Growing up in Freeport NY, Skip dreamed of following in the footsteps of the great fighter pilots of the past. After high school, he set off with that dream in mind, attending the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1967 and earning his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1968. Skip served his country for 25 years with a career that included graduating from the US Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), two combat cruises to Vietnam aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, as a member of VF -213 (Black Lions), and being recalled from the Naval Reserve in 1990-1991 to serve in Saudi Arabia, during the Gulf War. He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1992 achieving the rank of Captain.
After transferring to the Reserves in 1974, Skip continued to pursue his love of flying working for leading Aerospace companies over the years, initially as a pilot and instructor then as an International Defense Consultant. His career took him around the world from South America to the Middle East and beyond.
For those who knew and loved him, he will be remembered as gruff, but kind. He was quick to laugh and possessed a rapier wit, that could be both hilarious and biting. He definitely got his point across. But most importantly, he was a loving husband, father and G-Pa, who provided incredible support and advice to us across the years. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years Dorothy, two sons Matthew his wife Bridgette and Mason and grandson Maxwell and by all who knew him over the years.
You are free to soar again!
There will be a Celebration of Life, April 25, 2026 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and in Park City, UT in May 2026, date to be determined.
