Sonia Kay Heironimus went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 17, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Sonia was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was born to James H. (Buddy) & Imogene Wright on May 6, 1943, in Pecan Gap, Texas.

Sonia started attending school at Pecan Gap up until her father purchased a Gulf Gas Station and relocated the family to Denison. There, she attended school at Peabody Elementary. She continued on to Denison High School where she played the baritone in the marching band. She graduated from DHS in 1961.

Sonia was married on June 10, 1961, at Armstrong Avenue Church of Christ, and had two daughters, Sharla and Karen. She was a stay at home mom for many years. Her daughters loved to play softball, and Sonia was always there, often as scorekeeper.

She started her working career at Levi Strauss and later worked at J.C. Penny's as a sales associate in the jewelry department and would finish out her career there as a floor manager. She was able to retire at 62 and found much joy in her retirement. She enjoyed her grandkids whom spent the night with her regularly. She also followed their activities by attending 4-H horse club activities. She also attended her great grandsons' baseball games.

In 2014, she sold her home and built an addition onto her daughter Sharla's home. Sonia absolutely loved the country life. She always loved animals and thoroughly enjoyed helping take care of the chickens. She was lovingly nicknamed the "Chicken Tender" and she would gather the eggs every day. She loved riding the golf cart while taking the dogs down to the pond. She would often stop and take a photo of sunsets at the pond to post on Facebook.

Her second family was her Senior Citizens Center friends. She went almost every day and would spend all day at the "center" playing dominos and card games along with a weekly Autoharp class. It was there she she met a few cousins she didn't even know she had.

Those cousins and friends became her cruise buddies! She loved cruising so much that she got her entire family hooked as well and they went on 17 cruises together. She loved to crotchet, do word finds, and enjoyed singing karaoke with the family.

Sonia attended Park Avenue Church of Christ and enjoyed the Senior Adult Ministries' game nights.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Max. She is survived by her daughters, Sharla and husband Ricky Stephenson of Denison, Karen and husband Larry Ratcliff of Denison; granddaughters Shannon Haynes and husband Heath, Kacey Collinsworth, Kristen Collinsworth and grandson Ricky Stephenson Jr.; and great grandsons Kaiden Hester and Maverick Haynes.

Family night will be Friday November 21, 2025, from 5pm-7pm at Fisher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10am Saturday November 22, 2025, at Park Avenue Church of Christ in Denison, followed by graveside service at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, TX.
