Sonja "Sony" Sieglinde Brewczynski, born on January 21, 1956, in West Germany, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Guilford County, North Carolina, at the age of 69. Sony lived a vibrant life full of love, laughter, service, and creativity.
In her early years, Sony enjoyed riding her motorcycle, where the odds were against her being mainly male riders, but she persevered. Sony graduated from Herkimer High School in upstate New York in 1975, setting the stage for her diverse career. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1981 as an Aircraft Marshaller and Draftsman. Later, she channeled her talents and energy into becoming a devoted homemaker, where she found joy in nurturing her family.
Sony's interests were as varied as they were engaging. She had a passion for scratching lottery tickets and dreamed of visiting the new casino, Cesar's Palace, in Virginia - a trip she longed for but, sadly, did not manage to take. However, as ill as she was, she adamantly and successfully made the journey to her 50th Class Reunion in New York. She delighted in fulfilling her dream of taking a cruise, with her immediate family, a cherished experience she held dear. Sony had a unique gift for connecting with people, capturing moments through photos with everyone she encountered, fostering friendships that lasted a lifetime. Those closest to her like her lifelong friend, Becky Spencer, would say she never met a stranger. Music, bingo, playing darts, shooting pool, and enjoying ladies' weekends were among her favorite pastimes.
She loved to draw, and her artistic flair was evident in her caricatures and portraits, showcasing her eye for detail and creativity. Notably, Sony also triumphed over Multiple Sclerosis, a testament to her resilience and strength.
Her love for animals was profound, particularly for her cherished pets Gunner, Sammy, Kitty, and BubbaBear, who brought immense joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Lisbeth Steinbichl, husband, John Brewczynski III, sister, Silvia Kellner, brother-in-law, Albert Goss, and son-in-law, Jeffrey Pyle. Sony leaves behind a loving family: her daughter Marisa Pyle-Cefaly (Joey), sons John Brewczynski IV (Randa) and Brian Brewczynski, as well as her treasured grandchildren Madison, Korbin, Briley, Kennedy, Cami, and Chloe. Her sister, Renate Goss, holds dear the memories of their shared journey, as does her special niece Lynnell Goss, along with other nieces and nephews. Her lifelong friend and matriarch of the family, Sandy Climek, remained steadfast by her side throughout her entire life.
A memorial service celebrating Sony's life will be held on, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at State Line Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi, at 2:00pm, with Pastor Michael Shelton officiating. The Memorial Service can also be viewed online via YouTube @statelinebaptistchurch4717 and Facebook at Baptist 182. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice in
Greensboro, North Carolina, as a tribute to Sony's enduring spirit and compassion.
Sony's legacy of warmth, laughter, and love will remain etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. May her memory be a blessing to those she leaves behind.
