Sonja Moore

Tupelo-Sonja Lee Smith Moore departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026 in Tupelo after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 66 years old. Born in Booneville to the late William O. "WO" Smith and Jeanette Hall Smith, who survives, Sonja grew up in Tupelo and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1977. She was a superb bowler and participant in bowling leagues in the Tupelo and Northeast Mississippi area. Her working career included many years with Hancock Fabrics where she was Executive Secretary in the accounting department under Bill Sheffield. She finished her employment at the Verona City Hall where she worked until retiring in 2024. Sonja was a happy, go lucky type who enjoyed life, loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bunko with her lady friends and traveling with them to the beach. Sonja attended West Jackson St. Baptist Church growing up but was a longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

A public visitation will take place beginning at Noon and ending at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. The family will observe a private family service honoring Sonja with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends.

Sonja is survived by her Mom, Jeanette "Munner" Smith of Tupelo; her children, LeAnna "Lynn" Hill and husband, Todd of Olive Branch, Brittiany Weathers of Belden and Van Moore and wife, Stephanie of Germantown, TN. ; her beloved grandchildren, Finley Hill, Mary Michael Hill, Bennett Hill and Kit Moore; her brother Stuart Smith and his wife, Tabatha of Saltillo; two nephews Jake Smith of Nashville and Will Smith of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and a host of friends.
