Sonya Phillips Obituary
Memorial Service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.
Fred Raney will officiate.
Sonya was born on January 19, 1971 to Opal Jones in Garland. She was united in marriage to Bill Phillips on April 22, 2011 in Olympia, Washington. Sonya attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a sociology and law degree. She retired from the United States Army as a Captain, attorney, a legal assistant, and a model for many years. Sonya had a special place in her heart for German Shepards. She was a beloved wife, step-daughter, sister, step-sister, and a friend to many that will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Opal Underwood.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 13 years, Bill Phillips of Runaway Bay; her step-father, Jim Underwood of Lubbock; her brother, Jeff Barger and his wife Heidi; her sister, Judy Nelson and her husband Perch; her step-sister, Holly Duncan; other relatives and a host of friends.

God bless Sonya. We were in the same run group at the Army Law School together. I enjoyed her tremendous sense of humor in her Texas accent as we were struggling to run up the hills of Charlottesville. She had some colorful language! She will be sorely missed. RIP
