Sonya Darlene (Keener) Shultz was born August 28, 1956, in Paris, TX, to Troy and Adelene Keener. Before her first birthday, they moved to Garland, TX, where she lived and grew up. At the age of 7, she was reborn, accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior. On November 27, 1982, she married Rick Shultz, and 4 years later, on December 23, 1986, she gave birth to her daughter, Angelene. On November 18, 2025, after a 9-month debilitating battle with cancer treatments and the results of a fall, she went home to be with Jesus.

Darlene is preceded in death by her father, Troy Keener; mother, Adelene Keener; brother, Don Keener; brother, Ted Keener; sister, Danita Slayter; nephew, Kevin Keener; and niece, Shonna Slayter.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Shultz; daughter Angelene Shultz; sister, Danette Van Hoy; brother-in-law, Jerry Slayter; sister-in-law, Candi Roberts (husband Charlie); brother-in-law, Perry Shultz (wife Cheryl); sister-in-law, Gretchen McRae (husband Brian); and a bunch of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; all of whom she adored.
