Sophia Cruz Obituary

Born July 23, 2008, in Galveston, TX, Ms. Cruz was a Hitchcock resident for most of her life, previously of Alvin and Rosharon. A proud Lady Indian and devoted athlete, she shined on the varsity basketball team, where her talent, determination, and love for the game made her a beloved teammate and a fierce competitor. Basketball wasn't just a sport to her-it was a way of life. Outside the gym, she found joy in the simple beauty of nature. She loved camping and especially cherished early mornings watching the sun rise over Galveston Beach, where she found calm and reflection in the waves and the sky.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Luis Cruz, Jesus Guerra; great-grandmother, Viola Castillo; aunt, Delores Herrera; uncle, Javier Garcia.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Maria and Lupe Morales of Hitchcock; father and stepmother, Raymond and Claudia Cruz of Alvin; brothers, Jayden Morales, Raymond Cruz, Jr., Brandon E. Chavez; sisters, Lorena Morales, Julia Cruz; grandparents, Gerardo Sagredo and Rosa Elena of Alvin, Omar and Cheryl Cruz of Alvin; great-grandparents, Raul and Zeferina Diaz of Alvin, Emilia Cruz; numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 10114 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Texas, with Reverend Larry Wilson, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Johnny Cruz, Jesus Cruz, Omar Cruz, Jr., Raymond Cruz, Lupe Morales, Gerardo Sagredo, Sr., Gerardo Sagredo, Jr., Raul Sagredo and Ricky Sagredo.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Michael Carr officiating followed by a Rosary.
