A Memorial Mass for Sophia Mirabal, 81, of Athens, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the St. Edward's Catholic Church Historic Location, with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. A Rosary will follow under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mirabal passed away on March 22, 2025, in Tyler.
Sophia Lee (Garcia) Mirabal was born on April 5, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Henry Manuel Garcia and Amelia Marie (Lueras) Garcia. She attended Marinello Hair School in Los Angeles and owned and operated several hair salons in California. Sophia was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting, cooking, and playing bunco with her friends. A lover of travel, she particularly cherished skiing and camping. Sophia had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs. Her greatest achievements were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death her parents and one sister.
Survivors include her children, Roberta Coleman of Athens, Camille Cabrera of Los Angeles, California, and Amanda Hill and husband Andrew of China Spring; nine grandchildren, Nicole Lopez, Jasmine Gomez, Amelia Mack and husband Joe, Steven Gomez and wife Carolina, Jeremy Yep and wife Diane, David Nevarez, Camille Taylor Terrazas, Shane Bejarano and wife Cassie, and Sean Hill and wife Kat; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will host a memorial celebration of life on Saturday, April 26, 2025, starting at noon, at 105 McDonald Dr., Athens, Texas, and invites everyone to come by and visit.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
