Sophia Ewellvet Walker

Ms. Sophia Ewellvet Gant Walker, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, niece, and friend was born July 6, 1969, in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Virginia McMahon Gant and Randy E. Simpson. Sophia departed this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sophia graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1988.

Sophia would brighten up any room that she entered. Her smile and courageous laughter brought joy to all that knew her. She had a heart of pure gold, and everyone was welcome to eat at her table.

Sophia married James Walker in 2003.

She worked at Aramark and in the restaurant industry working for several local restaurants including KFC, Hardee's, Pizza Hut, Burger King, and Angie's Catering. She worked at Popeyes for the past five years.

Simpson; Brothers, Carter (Rebecca) Gant, Randal Trice, and Gary Trice; Sisters, Delita (Ajani) Akil, Shelia Bailey, Iris Gant, Lori Brown, Melinda Bell, and Ashley Simpson; Step-Daughters, Kavosia Walker, Aaliyah Freeman, and Dream Branch; Step-Granddaughters, Kay'Liana Ruiz and Nahlea Fae; Aunts, Emma, Ella Ray, Cora, Elsie, Sandra, Pamela, Cheryl, Melody and Mechelle; Uncle, Elwood; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends, including her Dear Friend Roy Brown.

Sophia was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Jane McMahon Martin and brother Frank Gant.
