Spencer Chambliss Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ronald Taylor II Funeral Home - Washington D.C. on Jan. 31, 2023.
A Magnificent Gentleman
Spencer Thomas Chambliss was born September 22, 1944, to Theodore and Juanita Chambliss in Portsmouth, Virginia. After fighting vigilantly to recover from illness that began a year ago, he slipped away during the early hours of January 25, 2023.
Spencer's early life was spent in Portsmouth, Virginia. There he completed education through the public school system. Later, he completed his bachelor's degree from his beloved Norfolk State College. Often when greeting college classmates he'd repeat the school's mantra "Behold the Green and Gold". Over the years he'd proudly wear green and gold clothing in allegiance to NSU.
After college, he accepted his first job as Industrial Arts teacher at Fauquier High School. Several years later, he joined IBM as an engineer, where he verified the quality of the chips designed to run main-frame computers. He remained with IBM until his retirement in 1992. For the next ten years, he served as co-owner of a small transportation company serving Northern Virginia.
Spencer is known throughout our circle of family and friends as the kindest, gentlest and ever- present husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Also, widely known throughout his lifetime, was his passion for sports – All Sports! He served with Bull Run Officials to referee high school football, baseball, basketball for over twenty years. Spencer was also known as a lover of food-all food. Among family he was known as "Mikey" because he loved ALL FOODS..
On December 31, 1967, he married Cynthia Hendricks, his college sweetheart. They would go on to become the proud parents of Spencer Jr. (Tommie) and Shawn Nicole. Through Shawn and Tommie, he became the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and four great grands. He adored every one of them and has always been present in their lives and proud of their accomplishments.
In 1986, Spencer and Cynthia joined First Baptist Church of Vienna. There he joined many ministries such as the Trustees, Men's Ministry, Voices of Praise and Men's choirs. Through First Baptist, many friends became our extended family.
Spencer was pre-deceased by his mother Juanita Chambliss, his father Theodore Chambliss and his brother Theodore Chambliss Jr. He leaves behind his wife and soul mate of 55 years, Cynthia, daughter Shawn (Julian), son, Spencer Jr., brother Cornelious (Portia), nephews, Tony and Aaron, nieces, Linda and Trina; grandchildren, Spencer III (Trey), Ashley, Javon, Jamari, Camryn, Justin, great grands: Aria, Sire, Saint, and Kyrie. He was supported by a host of wonderful friends too numerous to list.

At the end of life on this earth, what really matters is not
what we bought but
what we built; not what we got but what we shared. Our
character, our success and our significance. Spencer clearly lived a life that matters to so many.
A life a of endless LOVE for CYNTHIA, SHAWN, Tommy, all his GRANDS and family members. Blessings Ben, Joan & BJ
