Spurgeon I. "Spurg" Burkett Sr., 64, of Nisbet, passed away unexpectantly at home on June 19, 2025. He was born in Mount Pleasant on November 4, 1960, a son of the late Fred Sr. and Dorothy (Ray) Burkett. Spurg was graduate of Yough High School and went on to work for the United States Postal Service retiring after 27 years as a rural route carrier, traveling over 1,000,000 miles throughout his career. He was a member of the VFW Duboistown, as well as the Sugar Valley Social Club in Loganton. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting. He and his wife, the former Lisa McQuillen, would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary October 11, 2025 In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children, Logan Burkett (Rylie Neece) of Williamsport, and his children from a previous marriage; Brandi Burkett (Shawn Myers) of Newville, Tami Burkett of Sulpher Springs, Colo, Spurgeon I. Burkett Jr. (Kendra Stine) of Newburg; step-daughter Yalanda Estrallas of Williamsport; grandchildren Brayden, Grayson, Quinten, Spurgeon III, Fletcher, and Laklyn; brothers, Fred Burkett Jr. and James Burkett (Gail) of West Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Sr. and Dorothy (Ray) Burkett; siblings, Joyce Kozieniak and Edward Burkett. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 2-4pm at the Crouse Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport PA 17701. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow from 5 to 8 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post 7863, 150 Shaffer St. Duboistown. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to the VFW Post 7863 Duboistown for the benefit of their food bank, 150 Shaffer St., Duboistown, PA 17702 To share a memory or sign an online register book, please visit www.crousefuneralhome.com.
