Spurgeon C. "Spud" Isbill

Spurgeon C. "Spud" Isbill, age 91 of Sweetwater, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born March 11, 1934, in Sweetwater, Spud served in the United States Army and later worked as a carpenter at Watts Bar. He was a skilled builder who constructed many houses from start to finish. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, RA leader, and many other capacities at Cedar Fork Baptist Church for many years, and the past 31 years at Fairview Baptist Tabernacle Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Athel and Ida Isbill, brothers John (Betty) Isbill, Wayne (Jeanne) Isbill, sisters, Clara (Kenneth) Davis, Mary (JR Raby) and her late husband, Bill Brewster. Survivors include the love of his life, Roxie E. Hicks Isbill of Sweetwater, daughters Sandra (Eric) Cross of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Connie (Keith) Torbett of Athens, TN; son Greg (Angie) Isbill of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Juli (Josh) Stockton, Jake Thompson, Lindsay (Dave) Newbauer, Dustin (Anna) Bray, Tristan (Sharri) Torbett, Cory (Nicole) Bray, Nick Isbill and MacKenzie (Kai) Miettinen; nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter due in November. He also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law Dottie and Willie Dawson, and special nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Danny Isbill, Charles Reiter, and Jamie Davis, as well as the many friends and family whose support and kindness have meant so much during this time. Services are Saturday, July 26, 2025, with receiving of friends from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Tabernacle Church with the Celebration of Life to immediately follow at 4:00 PM. Rev. Johnny Carr and Deacon Rick Bettis will be officiating. A private burial for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairview Baptist Tabernacle Church. The family wants to extend a special thank you to Adoration Hospice.
