Spyros Mazarakis, 75, died Monday, August 4, 2025 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Albany, NY on November 13, 1949, beloved son of the late Peter and Mary Mazarakis. He resided in Albany for many years until placement at the Center for Disabilities Services where he resided in several residences throughout the years. He was loved by the other individuals and staff of that agency. Spyros was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. He had an endearing smile and the peace sign was a signature move for Spyros. He loved his family and was proud of his Greek heritage. He enjoyed listening to music, watching sports, especially his beloved Yankees, and attending the Greek festivals at St. Sophia.
Spyros was predeceased by his brother Gerald Mazarakis; six aunts and uncles Sophia Sokaris, Albany, Georgia Samolis, Greece, Harry Bazakis, Saratoga, George Bazakis, Troy, Evangeline Spyratos, Florida and James Bazakis, Michigan. He is also survived by several cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, NY 12208. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.
