BETTY JEAN HANER Vero Beach, FL-Haner, Betty Jean (Elizabeth), nicknamed BJ, 95 years, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Vero Beach, FL. She was the daughter of R Paul Haner and Avis (Roberson) Haner. BJ was born August 10, 1929 in Oneonta NY. She lived all her life in Colonie NY. Her sister, Margaret (Ken) Rocke, Vero Beach FL, and several nieces and nephews survive her, as well as a lifelong teacher friend, Patricia Parlin, Zephyrhills, FL. She was the librarian at Saddlewood Elementary school, South Colonie CSD. After retirement, BJ lived with Patsy Parlin in Zephyrhills, FL, several months every year for many years. She was also able to be with her sister and family in FL. Part of the year BJ lived at her family home on New Shaker Rd, Colonie BJ also was the treasurer for several organizations, including Soule Kindred, and Mayflower Society. BJ was an active member of Lisha's Kill Reformed Church, until she moved to Vero Beach near her sister in 2020. BJ served as SS treasurer, RCW treasurer, and elder for many years. She was an active participant in Camp Days and Vacation Bible School programs. She was a dedicated supporter of worldwide missionaries through Reformed Church of America, hosting them whenever they visited Lisha's Kill. BJ loved her many miniature dachshunds, named "Kriket," and Molly. She enjoyed traveling with her sister Peg, on cruises, and to visit Machias, Maine with her friend, Pat. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lisha's Kill Reformed Church memorial fund, or local animal rescue. There will be a burial service at Memory Gardens on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10am. A memorial service will be planned in September to celebrate BJ's life.
