Stan Nielsen

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother Franklin Standley Nielsen, 87, completed his earthly journey on Monday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. 

Stan will be remembered for his hard working, family first nature. He learned early in his life to overcome adversity and the value of work hard. His father, Ether, passed away in a tragic accident when Stan was only 7 years old. He quickly had to grow up and help manage the family farm in Hyrum, UT. 

Growing up in rural Utah during a difficult economic time without a father could have granted any excuse for not excelling in life. Instead, Stan used his circumstances to shape his character into a hardworking, dependable, and caring man. Although his dad left him early, he maintained that Ether regularly visited him in his dreams and helped direct his life.

Stan’s love for family is his everlasting legacy. He dedicated his life to providing and caring for those under his care and took active interest in the lives and activities of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He rarely missed any event, game, recital or awards ceremony. 

Stan valued education and hard work. He enjoyed his employment at Jetway, South Ogden City and Pineview Water. He retired from UDOT, where he was instrumental in the design and construction of many roadways throughout Utah. He instilled the importance of a solid education in all of his posterity.

He had a deep affinity for anything chocolate, travel, motorhome trips, restoring old cars and tinkering on his farm. Nothing got Stan more excited than to tell his friends and family about how smooth and comfortable whichever car he was driving at the time. Cadillac was his favorite brand, earning him the nickname “Cadillac Stan”. Stan attributes his Cadillac in helping to attract the beautiful Miss Wheat and Beet days queen, Peggy Palmer, into his life while enrolled at Utah State University. Peggy remarked, “How could I ignore a handsome man in a convertible Cadillac?” 

Stan and Peggy as synonymous as any pair in human history (at least to us) spent the better part of 62 years together. They were married in the Logan Temple, September 14, 1962. They enjoyed a marriage anyone would dream of. Together, they took on all of life’s challenges and managed to carve out a wonderful and prosperous life. He found most pride in having raised what he referred to as his “6 perfect children”. Debbie, Mike, Kirk, Natalie, Melanie, and Kristen, who loved and respected him beyond measure.

Stan’s faith was at the foundation of his life. He was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life including Bishop of the 60th Ward, a calling he loved. He served a mission as a young man in the Pacific Northwestern States Mission and later enjoyed two missions with Peggy at the Heber Valley Camp and in Palmyra New York for the Book of Mormon Pageant. Stan’s ability to share his testimony of Jesus Christ was admirable and spoke to his gentle and genuine nature. 

Stan is survived by his sweetheart, Peggy Palmer Nielsen; children, Debbie (Ty) Campbell, Michael (Natasha) Nielsen, Natalie (Jeff) Kofford, Kirk (Danielle) Nielsen, Melanie (Scott) Lee, and Kristen (Jack) Marberger; 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marion Reese. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Marie; his mother and father, Connie and Ether Nielsen; brothers, Lloyd and Elwood Nielsen; and sister, Donna Sorenson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Jul 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Tremonton, Utah.
